We set aside this day every year to reflect on what we have to be thankful for. Growing up I always thought this holiday was a little sappy, a little too feel good, silliness for me. Now that I have my own family and have been working in the photography industry for a little longer than 10 years things are a little different. Maybe I have grown up a little. Maybe.
First off, I am thankful for every single job that I get to shoot. After a few years in this business, I have seen that booking every job is a hard won battle. There are so many good photographers out there, and I am honestly humbled every time someone chooses to share their life and vision with me.
I am so thankful for my family. Andrea puts up with so much of my garbage. She tolerates my obsession with photography, and even throws in her support when I need it. Caitlyn as well. All the time on nights and weekends that I am out shooting and they hold very little of it against me 😉
I am also thankful that this industry is filled with sharing professionals: people who will bend over backwards to help those that are just starting out. When I was brand new to the industry I needed a lot of help. I found that help through networking and professional organizations devoted to furthering the photography industry.
Today is a day to take stock of what we have and to be thankful, and while many may have a grim outlook, there is still plenty to be thankful for.
